Mike Ryan, NCC President, next to newly created Wall of Ideas

The Wall of Ideas (aka Wall of Crazy) is the bright idea of Northam Chamber of Commerce (NCC) President and Deputy Shire President, Michael Ryan.

It’s a means of  ensuring those great ideas that are suggested and pop up from time to time are recorded on the Wall of Ideas and can be explored further when time and resources allow.

What has certainly assisted has been the recent NCC survey conducted at the end of  2018.

This survey saw more than 410 members of the Northam community suggest business opportunities and ways the CBD could be improved.

This information was shared with the Shire of Northam’s (SoN) CBD Redevelopment officer, Michelle Blackhurst who was also interested in data collected regarding rents on the main street.

This data will assist the collaboration between the NCC and SoN to improve the empty shops on the main street by assisting new business or improving their appearance.

A Super Soaker Party has been organised by NCC CEO (Chief Enthusiasm Officer) Esther Bliss which takes place this Sat 19th January at 10.30am outside the Northam Hardware at 136 Fitzgerald St, Northam.

Get wet, get, soaking, get cleaning superheros!

Prior to moving to Northam I’d heard the stories – lots of crime, can’t walk the streets, unfriendly town. Nothing to see or do, just a country town in decline.

Well thanks a lot Northam – you’ve shattered that dream or nightmare of mine. I’ve lived in a lot of towns all over the world and I gotta say, who on earth do you think you are? How dare you bring a tear to my eye this week?

Winter Coats for a Cure

Comments Off on Winter Coats for a Cure

A community market

The offspring of the Northam Chamber of Commerce and Northam Women in Business is a relatively young phenomenon known as the Northam Farmers Market. Only a mere 18mths old it has started to attract attention as a small baby would for community and charity drives in Northam.

The latest deserving charity at the markets is

“Winter Coats for a Cure”.

This official fundraiser proudly supports the Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation and has been initiated by local boy Mason Barr who recently completed a $5km run for the charity raising more than $200. 100% of the proceeds go to the Perth Children’s Hospital – Children’s Cancer Ward 3B and EVERYONE can help in 1 of 2 ways:

Clear your wardrobe and donate a winter coat to the fundraising cause. It also means those in need can afford a warm coat for winter. Coats and jackets can be either dropped off at the Northam Chamber of Commerce office between 9.30-1 Monday to Friday, or alternatively Mason’s mum, Kate can come around and collect. Who doesn’t have a jacket or coat they no longer need?

Buy a Coat (prices start at $5)

The Winter Coats for a Cure can be found at the Northam Lions Market which meets at Bernard Park every 1st Saturday of the month. Next markets are during the school holiday on July 7th

You can also donate directly to Mason’s fundraising page:

Stacey and I also had a short chat with Mason to see what this charity drive was all about.

A very worthwhile causeDetails to come….
